The One With the Actually Brief Update
Hey friends! On the clock here, metaphorically. (I just popped a batch of salt and vinegar fries in the oven, and I've sworn to get this post done now so I can finish Revenge of the Sith tonight.....so I can move onto the Originals tomorrow, thank GOD, the Prequels, WHAT ON EARTH.)
Anyway. No in-depth article this time around; no snarky, gif-filled commentary on healthcare or fertility meds or what-have-you. (Check out our vaccine post if ya wanna, though, maybe?)
Last week, work kicked me down, flat - so much typing! so many words! - and Ted and I are both bubbling over with nervous energy/anxiety prior to November 3rd (his father's birthday; should be quite the stressful occasion). Amidst the craziness and chaos, though, we did meet with our NaPro for an update. And, guys, we're inching closer and closer to a Battle Plan Reveal OMG. (Keep your expectations v low; we're just psyching ourselves up wherever we can, because....infertility, 2020, SAD, everything)
Anyway. Voila:
October Infertility Update
- Still got PCOS. Check!
- Based on hormone ish and other fun, my doctor's also added 'ovarian dysfunction' to my problem list. (Invaluable Ted note: Ovarian dysfunction: not the same thing as PCOS? Or, maddeningly, PCO? There's a Venn diagram situation here that is not simple. We'll get to drawing.) Yay! More on that to come, I'm sure.
- This month's project: Get a progesterone panel done. Basically, once I think I might have ovulated (?) based on cervical fluid production, I'm going to go in and get blood draws taken every other day throughout the majority of my luteal phase. That'll give us another clue to figure out a) whether I'm actually ovulating or just doing a really good job pretending I am, and b) if I need to go on supplemental progesterone (or estrogen, or HCG, or another of a menu of hormonal cocktails) in order to have a realistic chance at conceiving. WHOO BOY. Fun times.
- Still on a plant-based diet...though I am breaking from it to experiment with greek yogurt this week. GASP.
- My weight loss stalled out at 2-3 kg down (5-6lbs) which was certainly a nice and fun progress party, but I've been stuck in this plateau for a real month. (Do I have to exercise now? SADFACE)
- Another month of acupuncture come and gone, another ~monthly cycle~ with lessened pain. Which, honestly, that's been incredibly nice.
- Upped my dosage of Metformin to 1500 mg, the recommended dose for PCOS, and promptly started feeling nauseated 24/7, which really just took October to a whole new level. (Ted just dared me to put 'kg' as the unit there and see who noticed.......lol.) We'll prob do a thing on Met again at some point, as it is *definitely not* my plan to be on it for the rest of my PCOS-impacted life; but, as mentioned before, it's what our NaPro recommends, so, for now, that's what we're going with.
- The house smells like salt and vinegar now!
- New Halloween tradition (for us): We watched The Silence of the Lambs on Saturday morning, because I am an absolute snowflake who needs a good separation between horror and bedtime; and then wrapped up the day by watching the 80's version of Clue. It'd probably been like fifteen years since either of us had seen it? We were CACKLING. It was brilliant.
Okay! That's all. Happy November. Go vote, etc. Stay safe out there!
